Severe Cold Continues in Kashmir, Srinagar Records Minus 4.9°C

Srinagar, Feb 10: The severe cold conditions persist in Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar registering a low temperature of minus 4.9°C on Saturday.

According to the meteorological department official, Srinagar experienced a drop in temperature by one notch compared to the previous night, which was recorded at minus 4.8°C. The current temperature in Srinagar is 5.1°C below the normal for this time of the year in the summer capital of J&K.

• Qazigund: Minus 5.8°C (4.8°C below normal)
• Pahalgam: Minus 8.6°C (3.6°C below normal)
• Kokernag: Minus 3.7°C (3.0°C below normal)
• Kupwara: Minus 4.4°C (2.9°C below normal)
• Gulmarg: Minus 7.0°C (0.8°C below normal)
• Jammu: 7.3°C (2.8°C below normal)
• Banihal: 1.8°C
• Batote: 3.9°C
• Bhaderwah: Minus 2.2°C

The weather forecast indicates dry weather prevailing until February 17, with occasional cloudy evenings expected around February 14. From February 18 to 20, there is a possibility of light snow and rain in the region.

As the ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh winter period, ended on January 29, Kashmir is currently experiencing the 20-day ‘Chillai-Khurd’ winter period, which concludes on February 19, followed by the 10-day ‘Chillai-Bachha’ period starting from February 20 to March 1.
